UNIT B – Preparing Students for Level 2

Training Programme, Unit B:

Development of Teaching skills  will include require understanding of matters in Level 1

1. The place of music in students’ education, and the purpose of the lessons to the student
2. Understanding the reality for students studying ‘world music’ and the ‘oral tradition’ in western communities
3. Managing relationships with parents and the wider community and understanding and students attitudes to school
4. Further strategies: interactive teaching
5. Planning successful lessons 2:

• Observing and evaluating students learning during lessons
• Recognising continuity and progression
• Assessment, recording and reporting

6. Rationale behind world music lesson planning and revision of planning strategies for final assessment

Knowledge of the syllabuses;all information required will be subject specific

7. Reading notation including ledger lines, bass clef and more complex rhythmic groupings
8. Technique, problems and finding solutions
9. Performance assessment of examinations at Level 2
10. Cultural Development of Music in Europe
11. Recognising styles included in level 2 and how to portray them
12. Information about exam pieces in Level 2
13. Information about the music of the Caribbean
14. Cultural development of music in Europe, the Caribbean and their shared roots
15. Performers and participants of the Caribbean; information to grade 5
16. Assessment of long term planning
